Rome Food Tour by Golf Cart
Rome has plenty of food tours. Ours is different. I don’t follow a script—I share the city the way I live it: with history, street instinct, and a few surprises you won’t find on any brochure.
We start at the Colosseum. The first time I saw it, I was stunned. We meet right next to the Ludus Magnus, where gladiators lived and trained. From there, we drive past the Arch of Constantine and head toward the Circus Maximus. On the way, I’ll point out the Palatine Hill and the ancient palaces above. At the top, we stop for a photo—you’ll see four of Rome’s seven hills from here.
The Aventine Hill feels like a village. Quiet, green, elegant. We visit the Orange Garden and Santa Sabina Basilica. That wooden door? Nearly 1,700 years old. Still intact.
Then comes the Mouth of Truth. Everyone wants a photo, thanks to Roman Holiday. But I’ll ask you to turn around—because behind you are two ancient temples, including the oldest surviving one in Rome. Sometimes, you just need to look the other way.
We roll into the Jewish Ghetto. People always ask why it’s called a ghetto. I’ll explain. It’s one of the most moving, beautiful corners of Rome. Then comes Piazza Navona. I was 24 when I first saw it. January sun, spring in the air. Bernini’s fountain still makes me pause.
The Pantheon? It’s exactly as it was 2,000 years ago. Round buildings have a mystery to them. I’ll ask you what you feel when you see it.
Then we climb Gianicolo Hill. Garibaldi stands tall; the view stretches forever. This is where young Romans come to dream. And yes, we’ll pass through Trastevere—once poor, now the place to eat, stroll, and live.
A True Taste of Rome
Now we shift gears. Monte Testaccio—an ancient hill made of broken Roman pottery. I’ll take you into a 2,000-year-old cave carved into it. No signs, no crowds. Just stone, silence, and the scent of something real.
Inside, you’ll taste five cheeses, five cured meats, local bread, and wine. All aged right there in the cave. This isn’t a snack. It’s a moment. A True Taste of Rome.
We end at the Pyramid. Yes, Rome has one. Over 2,000 years old, standing at the city’s southern gate. It’s the perfect place to finish—where ancient roads meet, and your tour ends with a smile and a full stomach.
